The OSHA 30 Training Program provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces. The program also provides information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint.
The OSHA 30 Training Program employees attend 30 hours of classes delivered by Jeff Bennett, Thompson Electric’s OSHA authorized trainer. The 30 hour class is intended for employees with responsibility for safety in the field or as a refresher class for their personal well-being. The past 2 months Jeff Bennett provided OSHA 30 training for 16 employees from our Omaha office. This was the fourth OSHA 30 Training class in the past couple years in Omaha.
The 16 employees that attended the OSHA 30 Training were Charles Ball, George Turner, Mick Coffman, Daniel Erdbruger, Bret Falk, Nick Guthrie, Dave Hibler, Lynn Kahnk, Brad Madej, James Mahr, Nick Vincent, Aaron Miller, Chris Saab, Doug Stephens, Dan VanGrud and Richard Roan.

Construction workers often use energy drinks, such as Monster and Red Bull, for a quick pick-me-up. However, many people are unaware of the risks their consumption poses. Using these highly caffeinated and nutritionally deficient beverages can result in serious health complications. Our Sioux Falls team recently completed the Leadership Development class taught by Lisa TeSlaa. The course featured ways to increase productivity through managing priorities, mastering communication, increasing personal and team productivity/performance, goal setting/achievements and methods to help implement the lessons.
The course was taught every other week for 12 sessions in the Sioux Falls office. The 7 employees that attended were Chet Mehrer, Darryln Hamilton, Jeremy VanWell, Mark Tycz, Kelsie Thoreson, Mike Anderson and Lindsey Kovarna.

It was a big moving day for more than a dozen patients at Brookings Hospital Tuesday. The $46 million, 62,400 sq. foot expansion is complete after about 16 months of work. The state-of-the-art addition includes 24 private rooms for patients, visitors and family. They also welcome a new indoor MRI unit that can accommodate all body sizes.
CEO, Jason Merkley said the additions they have added, both in equipment and space, will help Brookings residents get local care. “Some of the amenities that we didn’t have that some of our folks in Sioux Falls had was something we needed to have updated,” said Merkley. Some new features, specifically the indoor MRI, seem self-explanatory. Merkley said changes like these gives the staff the opportunity to do more. “It’ll make us more efficient. It’ll have a much better experience for our patients to be able to enter into how we take care of them within our world,” said Merkley.
Thompson Electric of Sioux Falls was the electrical contractor for the Brookings Hospital. Thompson Electric provided value enhancement, project management and an experienced field team. Overall, phase one was very successful and now work has started on phase 2, renovating parts of the old hospital.

In fact, more than 4,000 public inputs and 1,500 comments went into the 2017 NEC alone. Hundreds of updates and five all-new articles pave the way to a safe and efficient electrical future. Every 3 years the NFPA releases an updated version of the NEC.
How do our licensed electricians stay abreast of these changes? They are required, as part of maintaining their electrical license, to have 6 hours of training per year (that’s Iowa, NE and SD are similar) that includes reviewing the new code changes. This is a never ending process for the licensed electricians, as the NEC comes out with a new addition every 3 years.
Thompson’s Service Vans were all decked out for the Christmas parades in Yankton, SD and Le Mars, IA this past week.
In Yankton, Barrie Larson (PM) his wife Tona and their kids, Ryker & Cooper, Shannon Vornhagen (PM) and son, Colton, Joey Nickles (Apprentice), Brice Sayler (Apprentice), his wife, Kristen and their kids, Corbin & Quinn and Frank Acosta (Service Electrician) all participated in the parade. They walked by the Thompson van and handed out candy to kids along the parade route and help spread the Thompson holiday cheer.
In Le Mars, Ed Anderson not only decked out the Thompson’s service van, he also pulled the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce float promoting Ice Cream Day’s in Le Mars. Christine Rasmussen, a friend of Ed’s, also helped in handing out candy and spreading the holiday cheer.
It’s great to see so many of Thompson Electric’s employees participating in their local community events. Thanks for making the Holidays a little more special.
