The OSHA 30 Training Program provides training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces. The program also provides information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint.
The OSHA 30 Training Program employees attend 30 hours of classes delivered by Jeff Bennett, Thompson Electric’s OSHA authorized trainer. The 30 hour class is intended for employees with responsibility for safety in the field or as a refresher class for their personal well-being. The past 2 months Jeff Bennett provided OSHA 30 training for 16 employees from our Omaha office. This was the fourth OSHA 30 Training class in the past couple years in Omaha.
The 16 employees that attended the OSHA 30 Training were Charles Ball, George Turner, Mick Coffman, Daniel Erdbruger, Bret Falk, Nick Guthrie, Dave Hibler, Lynn Kahnk, Brad Madej, James Mahr, Nick Vincent, Aaron Miller, Chris Saab, Doug Stephens, Dan VanGrud and Richard Roan.
We are proud of the commitment made to achieve the OSHA 30 Certification and recognize those who attended with an OSHA 30 Safety Vest.

We recently started Foodie Friday’s in our Sioux City office. This month Skip Perley, President/CEO, Barney Pottebaum, General Manager of Thompson Electric Sioux City, Jason Glover, General Manager of Thompson Automation and Specialty Services and Tasha Barker, General Manager of Electric Innovations created a St. Patrick’s lunch that included corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and a meatless stew.
Each month volunteers will work together to plan, prep and cook a meal for at least 60 people. This gives everyone the opportunity to get to know each other, work together and have fun!
This was the first of many Foodie Friday’s, it was a great celebration of 5 years in our awesome location. This start of a new tradition will bring all of the companies together for an amazing meal. It also brings excitement for what the future has in store for all of the companies.

This is one of our great experiences through our 85 years of electrical expertise submitted by Dave Hibler, Service Electrician at Thompson Electric Omaha.
Dave’s experience on a service call yesterday at a customer location we did work for 20 years ago. They identified us from the panel sticker that was put on by the foreman and placed a service call to our office.
Dave identified two positives from this experience:
- First, by putting the label on that panel 20 years ago the customer was able to identify the installing company and call us. Thus offering our team another opportunity to provide great customer service.
- Secondly, we are very proud that the work we did didn’t require any maintenance or repairs for 20 years.
Dave remarked. It was a great experience. The owner came up to me and pointed to the TE logo on my shirt and said to his wife see I told you it’s the same company. “It made me smile!”

Al Bermudez, has been an employee for Thompson Electric – Sioux City for 5 years and is in his 5th year apprenticeship. Al recently participated in his second Ideal Tools – Elite Tradesman Competition, at Lake Buena Vista, FL.
Al began his competition locally, on a Saturday at Echo Supply. The competition included pulling two wires using fish tape thru 3 boxes, connecting one single pole switch in one box, making a slice in the second box, and finally toning out the wires to ensure the switch worked correctly. The judging factors were time, quality and all work had to meet code standards. Al had the fastest apprentice time of 53 seconds.
For the second year in a row, Al was one of the 30 finalists that were flown to Orlando for the national competition. There was a total of 35,000 applicants nationwide. That’s a pretty amazing accomplishment of its own, but it gets better.
The project he worked on was one he does a lot here at Thompson, LED retrofit and convert a single pole switch that was controlling the lights to 2 three-way switches. Al placed 18th this year in the apprentice division which is a great accomplishment.
Al stated, “I’m just so glad that I have had the chance to represent the state of Iowa twice in Ideals electrical competition. This shows that Sioux City JATC is excelling in training us to succeed in our trade. I am grateful for the journeymen that have taught me so much over the years. I know I could never have gotten as far as I did in these past two years without the skills I learned from them. So a huge thank you to them!”
That’s quite an accomplishment for Al and all of us at Thompson Electric are very proud of Al’s accomplishments. Awesome job Al we can’t wait for the 2018 competition…
For the past 2 weeks, Thompson Electric, Electric Innovations, Thompson Automation and Specialty Services and TEC Corp of Sioux City have volunteered to ring bells for the Salvation Army Red Kettles.
Many employees took part in this and we had some wonderful experiences. Thanks to all who rang!
Sam Ouedraogo, Assistant Project Manager with Thompson Electric Company of Omaha has had a unique experience here at Thompson Electric beginning in summer of 2016. Sam is an Electrical Engineering student, he started at Thompson with a 3-month 400-hour internship.
During his internship, Sam has spent valuable hours in the office and the field. He was able to experience change orders, RFI’s, understanding the importance of planning, prefab and how the field and office team work together to keep projects moving forward. Sam stated, “I could not have done this without the assistance of the projects managers, the field workers and most importantly the opportunity that this company provides for the young uprising generation”.
Upon completion of his internship, Sam was asked to stay with the Team as an Assistant Project Manager. He is continuing his education and looks forward to the opportunities with Thompson after he finishes his degree.
Sam’s goal is to one day return to Burkina Faso and open an electrical company. He stated “combining the technology that I am learning here in USA with my previous experience from Burkina Faso I can bring something new to my country it will be a source of jobs, and new technology for my country to benefit from.” Most of the services we provide here in the USA are not standard in Burkina Faso and Sam hopes he can develop them. The electrical services he hopes to offer are industrial, commercial, automation, preventive maintenance, arc flash and especially renewable solar and wind energy.
